Meet the Board

Mary Jones

Mary JonesBorn in North Carolina, Mary Jones came to Rhode Island in 1956 and made the Smith Hill area of Providence her home. With five children and six grandchildren, Ms. Jones is committed to making her community the best it can possibly be. Impassioned by the belief that everyone deserves quality health care, she has volunteered her time to numerous community development projects.

Currently, she serves as Board Chair for the Providence Community Health Centers, which is in the process of raising funds to open two additional facilities in Providence. She is also an active member of the National Association of Community Health Centers and serves on the Advisory Board of the Community Development Corporation. In addition, Ms. Jones is actively involved in the community-policing program and was instrumental in working to attain a community policing station in the Smith Hill area. She is a former member of the RIte Care Board of Directors and the Smith Hill Development Corporation.

Ms. Jones also devotes many volunteer hours at the Smith Hill branch of the library, organizing fundraisers and teaching children African American history, for which she was honored with a Jefferson Award. The Feinstein Institute at Providence College also recognized Ms. Jones for outstanding community service with a Feinstein Merit Award. She has been twice acknowledged by the National Association of Community Health Centers for her service initiatives; was awarded Rhode Island’s Outstanding Woman of the Year - Homemaker of the Year; and was also named one of the 350 Most Outstanding Citizens in the City of Providence.
